While in India, I conducted field research for the Center of Social Action Bangalore, investigating the efficacy of and systems in place for micro-financing in poor communities, colloquially: ‘slums’. I worked hands on in these places, observed meetings of members of the micro-financing groups, and identified areas for data-driven improvement. I created qualitative and quantitative analysis reports and presentations on my findings on how to implement the changes. These were then used to improve the efficacy of the groups. In parallel, I also volunteered to teach math and computer skills to the children in the area.
